Reality Store

Reality Store

On March 13th, Spencer 8th grade students were shocked with a dose of reality.

The Reality Store is an interactive financial simulation where middle school students learn how their education, life choices and finances are all interrelated and impact their future.  During this hands-on experience students are given a hypothetical family situation. Based on that information they make spending decisions for their household. Their goal was to balance a monthly budget which included paying taxes, saving/investing, health and car insurance costs, and paying monthly bills (such as rent, utilities, phone, cable, childcare, groceries, car, clothing, etc.). Balancing their budget wasn’t easy, especially with unexpected financial fates along the way.

Spencer 8th grade students definitely got a glimpse of the future.

Spencer Math Students Celebrate Pi Day

Math Students

The past couple weeks Spencer 7th graders have been examining the circumference and areas of circles. Therefore, it seemed fitting to celebrate something as infinite as the value of pi.

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi is used in mathematics to represent a constant (the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter) which is approximately 3.14159. If you haven’t figured it out, Pi Day is observed on March 14 since 3, 1, and 4 are the first three digits of pi.

On this special day the 7th graders became a little “irrational” when sharing their "Pi" projects. They also listened to some "Pi" tunes and played "Pi" cards, but the best part was eating some delicious "Pi" food.- Submitted by Mrs. Barton

6th Grade Technology Skills

Students Integrating Technology and MusicIn Technology Skills, 6th grade students are creating parodies to their favorite songs!  The process includes analyzing lyrics and formulating ideas to express their feelings about a particular subject.  They then use different devices to record their voice and make a music video to correlate with their thoughts.  - Mrs. Wilke
