In a news conference held Thursday April 16, 2020 the Governor announced the extension of the Safer at Home order through May 26, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. There were some variations to the overall order but he did indicate that Public and Private K-12 schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What does this mean for The School District of Spencer?

Basically what this means is we will continue with what we are currently doing.  The current protocol for those people allowed to be in the building will remain in effect. We will follow our current school calendar so the virtual learning end date will be May 29, 2020. Our timeline for seniors who have met the graduation requirements to be completed by May 14, 2020 will be finished at that time.  For those who have not met the requirements will be finished upon completion.

What about Spencer High School Graduation?

Our senior class has been denied the most throughout this ordeal.  We WILL do everything within the regulations to not deny them the opportunity to walk across the stage and receive their diploma.  Plans are being formalized to do a virtual graduation ceremony on May 16, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. More information will be provided for this. We are also in discussions of setting a date that we can do a formal graduation ceremony this summer..  Our goal is to set a date which we feel has the best chance of little or no restrictions in hopes that we can do our traditional ceremony or a variation thereof. How that will look remains to be seen.

How do I get my child’s materials from school?

We know we can’t open our doors to the public until May 26, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. so until then things will need to stay put.  If you are in need of a specific item you can make arrangements by calling your student office to set up a time to come in as long as you meet the school protocol to enter the building.

What about Athletics?

Upon hearing the extension of the Safer at Home order the WIAA also extended the suspension of the Spring Sport Seasons.  I anticipate a formal announcement from the WIAA soon to announce the cancellation of the spring seasons altogether..

Will there be Summer School?

Discussions are being had at the state level to allow flexible options for summer school.  My plan is to attempt to hold face to face opportunities for this summer or a possible continuation of virtual offerings.  We will be sending out information electronically for sign up in the near future.

I completely understand the difficulties that the Safer at Home order has created for everyone.  I assure you our staff will continue to work hard to make this the best possible learning opportunity for your child.  Thank you to our parents who have worked hard in supporting us in the difficult endeavor.

Please keep in mind that we will continue to offer breakfast and lunch throughout this time.  Please refer to our webpage for more information. Also, if you are in need of daycare our Rookie Rockets Center is available.
